Job Description

Job Summary

Unzine Nashville is a vendor-led publishing project of The Contributor. We make zines with people who have lived experience of homelessness and poverty. Zines include poetry, collage, comics, manifestos, and stories that deserve to be heard. In collaboration with Stagger Press, the Nashville Street Poetry Project, local artists, and street newspaper vendors, we are building something raw, real, and rooted in the DIY spirit of street publishing. We are looking for someone to help carry the torch.

We want someone who already loves zines, has probably made one (or dozens), and sees them as a way to build power, community, and voice. You will help organize and distribute vendor-made zines across Nashville, lead biweekly workshops, and make sure these stories get into people’s hands, galleries, and imaginations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Run biweekly zine workshops after our street newspaper vendor breakfasts
  • Recruit volunteer artists to work with street newspaper vendors on new zines
  • Handle zine production tasks: ordering ink and paper, coordinating printing, and managing inventory
  • Manage the Unzine Nashville Instagram account
  • Organize zine tables at local art events, festivals, and community spaces
  • Build visibility for Unzine Nashville as a legit arts project

Qualifications

  • You already make zines, read them, trade them, and know their power
  • You believe people who have lived through poverty or homelessness make some of the best art out there
  • You are organized and creative and able to balance a spreadsheet or two and staplers
  • You are comfortable leading small creative workshops
  • You know how to collaborate with people from all walks of life with respect and curiosity

Additional Information

Benefits

Be a part of a fun and innovative project and be in relationship with cool and creative people who are housed and unhoused.

How to Apply

Send us an email at info@thecontributor.org and feel free to include a zine you have made or another work of art.
